PRESS RELEASE - from Silicon Gulch Jazz Band
7:30 to 9:30 P.M. on Wednesday, January 21st, 2004
Contact: Joe Bithell 408-244-9060 silicongulch@netscape.net www.kellerjazz.com/silicongulch/
Cabritos Mexican Bistro
Silicon Gulch Jazz Band will play and jazz singer Joe Bithell will sing the songs that Louis Armstrong recorded between 1920 and 1940. These are the songs of the early jazz and swing eras which Louis helped to prove immortal. Today there are bands such as the Silicon Gulch Jazz Band that play this music all over the world. Tunes included will come from Louis first job outside New Orleans in Chicago, where he recorded with King Oliver's Creole Jazz Band. Others will come from his back-ups of famous blues singers, from His Hot 5 & Hot 7, and his Orchestra (Big Band). Also included will be a few songs from his short time as a sideman in the Fletcher Henderson Orchestra. A later program will include songs from 1941 through the end of his career. Through all these years, however, the band has not created a permanent home for the early jazz music in the South Bay, as it was played for the first 50 years, except for 20 years at the Britannia Arms in Cupertino. Cabritos Mexican Bistro in Sunnyvale offers an opportunity to do this now. There is a large dance floor available, and plenty of room for diners. All ages are welcome and the music is appropriate for all kinds of dancers. The band will be performing on the first and third Wednesdays each month.
